Hair Extensions: Which type are right for me?

Whether you're dreaming of extra length, fuller volume, or a dramatic new look for a special occasion, hair extensions are a fast and effective way to transform your hair. At Kroma Salon, our team is Bellami Hair Certified and ready to help you choose the perfect type of extension for your lifestyle, hair goals, and maintenance preferences.

Let’s break down the most popular types of hair extensions — and which one might be right for you.

K-Tip Extensions (Keratin Bonds)

Best for: Long-term wear, natural movement, and minimal maintenance once installed.

K-Tips are bonded to your natural hair using a heat tool and keratin protein — the same protein your hair is made of. They're virtually invisible and move naturally with your own hair. These can last 3-5 months with proper care.

✅ Great for thin or fine hair
✅ Ideal for everyday wear
⏳ Installation takes time but results last longer
💆‍♀️ Not reusable – new hair is typically needed for each install

Tape-In Extensions

Best for: Quick application and a seamless finish for medium to thick hair.

Tape-ins are pre-taped wefts that are “sandwiched” between sections of your natural hair. They’re flat, lightweight, and lay close to the scalp. You’ll need to return to the salon every 6–8 weeks for a move-up.

✅ Fast to install (typically under 2 hours)
✅ Reusable with proper care
✅ Lay flat and blend beautifully
⚠️ Not ideal if you frequently wear your hair up

Clip-In Extensions

Best for: Occasional use, events, and DIY styling at home.

Clip-ins are the most temporary and DIY-friendly type of extension. Simply clip them in when you want a boost of volume or length, and remove them at the end of the day.

✅ Great for special occasions and non-committal glam
✅ Easy to use and remove
✅ No salon appointment needed
⚠️ Not ideal for long-term daily wear

Wefts & Sew-In Extensions

Best for: Thick hair types wanting volume and length with long wear.

Wefts are large sections of hair sewn or beaded into a row of natural hair. They're customizable and last 6–10 weeks before needing a move-up.

✅ Secure and long-lasting
✅ Low-maintenance styling
✅ Great for volume
⚠️ Requires thicker natural hair to support the weft

So... Which Is Right for You?

Choosing the best extensions depends on:

  • Your hair type

  • Your lifestyle

  • How long you want to wear them

  • How much maintenance you're open to
